Internet is growing fast offering more and more information. Not only more sites are opened daily, also more individual consumers are having accesses to Internet.
The individual consumer is confronted with a huge amount of information in different fields. Although there are a lot of search possibilities, there is no easy way to assess the quality of the information. Finding, selecting and assessing the right information will be a very important item in the near future on Internet. Consumer organizations, as neutral information providers, could play a role in this process. Not only as content providers, but also by actively screening and evaluating other neutral (consumer) information.
The aim of the project is to provide the consumer with a powerful internet based information service about consumer goods presentation with noncommercial content. In general the system is a publishing tool with several capabilities for gathering the published information. To help the user to find out documents an independent Keyword tree is maintained permitting the selection of different levels of wideness of the received information. Additional general purpose filtering can be used to refine the query results. Consumer WEB system has a publishing tool permitting the information from different information publishers to be maintained managed centrally and displayed in a common frame(layout).
The search possibilities are introduced by indexing the site like the standard search engines do it. This feature is based on Microsoft Index Server where a special interface is defined to simplify non-professional user to access the published information. More easier and common for the user is the structured searching interface where queries to the system are made using a visual tools (Tree and selection--combo boxes) from which an index-server query is prepared. Dynamic Publications engine permits the displaying and viewing a table based test information in different ways including table, detailed information or graphical view "Price/performance".
In order to tailor the information to the needs of the individual consumer special profiling system is developed. Form one hand this profiles gives the consumer the ability to save its interests in the server of Consumer WEB so that it can be notified about any new publications from his domain of interest. From the other this is a way to obtain a personalized view in the published information.
